A practice for institutions that answer to the public.
Thirdhall exists because public websites are still bought like marketing sites and then asked to behave like infrastructure. We build them as infrastructure that also has to be clear.
The third hall, checked from three seats.
The name is the method. An institution has the building people walk into and the phone line they call. The website is its third hall, and every engagement is checked from three seats before a line of interface is approved.
The resident. Can a person on a phone, with limited time and no knowledge of your org chart, finish the thing they came to do?
The publisher. Can the people who already have the job — clerks, school secretaries, program staff — post the next change in the template meant for it?
The record. Can procurement, counsel, and the next vendor understand what was bought, how it conforms, and where the keys are?
If a design flatters only one of those views, it is not done.
How we staff
Roles, not a rotating pod.
Service design before decoration.
Journeys, content models, and interface, in that order. Visual craft is high. It is not the first decision.
CMS, integration, and handoff.
Drupal, WordPress, or a custom task tool. Repositories and environments live with the institution.
In the estimate, and in QA.
Conformance work is planned, tested on critical journeys, and written so the next editor does not undo it by accident.
Where we work.
Remote-first across the US, with on-site discovery when a council, cabinet, or editing floor needs to be in the room. We contract directly or as a subcontractor. We do not invent a cooperative purchasing number to sound easier to buy.
If your counsel already has a path — an RFP, a task order, a rider on an existing agreement — we will work inside it.
