Harbor County Schools
Families were calling to ask which school, which calendar, and whether school was open. The new site answers those three questions before it explains the district.
The problem
Each school had been given a page and told to make it their own. Hours, feeds, and PDF calendars drifted. The district homepage led with awards. The call center led with boundaries.
The approach
We designed one school template and a finder that starts with address, grade, and program — language, magnet, early childhood — instead of an alphabetical list. Closures use a single alert component that expires, so Monday morning does not inherit Friday’s snow note.
School identity stayed. School infrastructure did not.
What shipped
- District and school templates with shared and school-specific fields
- A finder for boundaries and programs, usable on a phone
- Alert, calendar, and staff directory components
- Training for school secretaries, who publish more than the communications team does
What changed
Boundary calls dropped because the finder answered them. Principals stopped emailing PDFs to the district office for someone else to post. The brand still shows up. It shows up after the family has the fact they needed.
